Hope Cove is a quiet, unspoilt fishing village surrounded by National Trust Land. There are spectacular clifftop walks and two very safe sandy beaches which have a Seaside Award for water quality and cleanliness. Dolphins and the odd Grey Seal are occasional visitors to the bay. (occasionally swimmers have been lucky enough to actually swim with the dolphins) and the bird life is prolific. The sea around the bay is unusually clear, there have been over 30 shipwrecks in the area attracting divers and the safe waters are ideal for windsurfing and sailing.

Hope Cove’s two beaches are both sheltered and sandy. The Harbour Beach is filled with local fishing boats and sheltered by a breakwater. The other, safe, seldom crowded and a delight for children.

The village pub has regular entertainment throughout the Summer months from Jazz Bands to Morris Dancing.

Across Harbour Beach lies Inner Hope. This was the original village. The Old Lifeboat House is at the head of the slipway beyond this are the fishermen's cottages and a traditional Devon Square which is surrounded by old thatched cottages unspoiled by modern development. A miniature Victorian Wesleyan Methodist Chapel which is always open, is a must for those wanting prayer and solitude.

Beyond the cottages and chapel, a path climbs steeply out of the square towards Bolt Tail and around the cliff tops to Bolberry Down, Soar Cove and eventually to Salcombe. A walk of around 6 miles with some of the most spectacular cliff top views in the country.

Sand Pebbles is only 300 yards from the Beach and Cliff Walks and is an ideal base for touring the West Country with Dartmouth, Plymouth and Torbay all within a 20 mile radius.

The restrictions on pets vary on local beaches with some allowing dogs throughout the year, and some with seasonal restrictions so check the notice boards on individual beaches.

Not far away and therefore easily reached are Salcombe and Dartmouth, the sailing Mecca's of the West Country; Thurlstone and Bigbury for golf; Totnes and Plymouth for History and shopping.

Hope Cove Weekend is held over three days, Friday to Monday during the August Bank Holiday and includes a full programme of fun and games including Sand Castle building, Treasure Hunt and Milk Churn racing.
